I want to build my first PC build this year (Id say during the summer period) for predominately gaming however I will be a student soon so I will also need to use it for coursework etc.

My budget will be £2000 but obviously for a first time build I would prefer going lower. So far I have this setup in mind but also keep in mind that as a first time builder it may not be that great.

CPU: Intel Core i7-5820K 3.3GHz 6-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 82.5 CFM
Motherboard: MSI X99S Gaming 7 (not sure on this)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866
Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Storage: Seagate Desktop HDD 4TB 3.5" 5900RPM Internal Hard Drive
GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB Video Card (hopefully the price may come down due to the impeding release of the Pascal)
Case: Corsair 750D ATX Full Tower Case
Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 P2 1000W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully-Modular ATX (Maybe overkill however I do feel it is best to invest heavily into a power supply for future upgrades)

Total: £1450

Bear in mind that this does not include a monitor as although the 980TI is complete overkill for 1080p gaming I do want to invest in a 1440p monitor in a year or two. Also I will need to invest into other peripherals such as mouse and keyboard.
As a lasting note concerning the CPU is a i7 5820k worth the extra investment compared to a i7 4790k? I will be using this rig for a variety of purposes such as coursework and maybe some video editing but it will be used mostly for gaming.

Thank you for your time

At the moment gaming uses single core, so performance wise it's slightly better than 5820k if it's just gaming you using for.But rumours saying Dx12 we use multiple cores where DX 11 which we using now is single core if this is so your original choice could be boost by this...which could end up being better for gaming... Its all rumours, as it stand you will get better performance for less money GAMING. If you building in few months time best just to keep up-to-date with to see.

Ill probably be buying all the components around May-June so my plans for the rig may change. I may even go for the i5 Skylake series if I want to concentrate on gaming.

The i7 6700k is skylake and think the i5 6600k is the better i5 at moe also skylake... But do keep eye on it as the 5820k 6 core would get a bigger boost over the 4 core 6700k with Dx12 best thing you have some time to weigh things up lol.
