I noticed a high pitch noise coming from my computer when I opened a minecraft world. I pressed f3 to see if I could find the cause. Whenever my memory usage is really low, the pitch gets higher and louder. Its really weird and irritating, I can make the pitch waver by just moving the mouse. Any ideas on what could be going on.

I don't think it would be the hard drive because i installed minecraft onto my new SSD. I also thought it could be one of the fans, but the sound comes when memory usage is really low, so I don't know how it could be a fan when its running slower. The sound is coming from the computer itself and not the speakers.

Memory usage won't effect fan speed as that's temperature driven, unless they're not controlled by the mobo in which case they're RPMs are constant. I'd inspect each fan individually. With PC off, unplug a fan and turn PC on. Fire up a game to see if it happens. So on, and so forth.

Sadly after removing the graphics card to see if the noise would still be there, it was not. I guess ill have to try and RMA my graphics card. Unless you can think of anything else I could do?

I've heard of people covering the coils in glue (it's what some manufacturers have done), but that'll void your warranty. Normally the coil whine only happens at high frame-rates (> 100), so capping it (e.g. via V-sync) might sort it. My GTX 970 has coil whine, but it only ever showed up in Far Cry 2 and STALKER with v-sync off - I've never had it in Metro or any other more demanding game, or with v-sync on.
