How to control my home PC remotely from my work PC (there are huge limitations on the network)

Hello,

I have some free time at my job and in order to raise my productivity I want to access my home PC during my free time in order to manage my personal business.

I have tried almost all the popular remote access tools which don't look suspicious. (Teamviewer, Remote Utilities, Ammyy Admin, UltraVNC, Windows Remote Desktop (windows native one), Chrome Remote Desktop (I could not install it, because I don't have admin rights).

Ammy Admin gives http status code=403

I had great hopes for Real VNC, but it did not work too, though I did port forwarding correctly (connected to my pc from the mobile viewer). Even java viewer did not work.

I noticed, that only work those programs, which access my pc using servers hosted on software developers and this way I am getting very slow connection. (GoToAssist, join.me and several worked, but due to high lag they are almost worthless).

The reason of a bad performance is, that global connection at my network is very slow, but I think If I host server on my PC and connect using It I will experience no lags.

My pc at work connects to the internet through proxy of the company and Mcafee blocks many web-sites.

Though accomplishment of this task will give me more time for sleep I am ready to spend tons of time on the solution if I find correct path.

Any idea will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Well looks like you tried many things, we here don't have magic.

If you are not allowed to install these things at work, the only people who can help you are your own IT guys, and then you maybe fire walled you said?

Remote desktops, across the Internet, for most people, are good enough for the occasional admin stuff, not sit there and run a video editing session, and for sure not gaming, the lag is just intolerable.

I can't install things which don't require admin rights. I can run portable viewers of remote access software like Real VNC, but they are firewalled.

What gives me hope is, that some software are not firewalled, e.g GoToAssist. The only problem I see with it, that it connects to my home PC through server hosted abroad. If for example, the server of GoToAssist were hosted on my home PC or my network had higher global speed (I have pretty high upstream/downstreem local speed) the lag would be tolerable for my purposes.
I have now read GoToAssist features and it has the following function:
GoToAssist relies on HTTP outbound connections to transparently enable screen-sharing sessions. In most cases, support professionals and their customers can connect without changing firewall settings.

So I think If I find remote access software, which relies on HTTP outbound connections I will bypass firewall settings.

@Matt, If the IT guys at your company are worth their salaries, they (or your boss) will be after you with questions about all the blocked traffic you're generating.

If mending your personal stuff is so important on company clock - get a personal laptop with 3G/4G/LTE connectivity and use it for remote access.

Thanks for reply, Alabalcho.

I don't know, if they ask questions about blocked traffic (and I doubt) I am generating instead of answering I will just leave so this is not a big issue. I will consider this action as a justified risk.

Taking my laptop is prohibited as well, so I can't do it. The only solution for now I see is Android phone on 4G + SlimPort with Bluetooth keyboard and mouse (So I will connect to my home PC via phone and browse it using my keyboard and monitor of office)

Doing this is not only very important, but it is a case of principle too, I don't want to give up unless I am 100% sure, that there is no solution.
