So I have four sticks same clock
2x 8gb and 2x 4gb
If I run them together they will all work as 4x4gb for 16gb?
Or will they work together for 24gb??

Solution
As long as you have them, give them a try if any problems let us know CPU, mobo and model #s of the DRAM and we can try timing/voltage adjustments to see if we can get all to play nice ;)

Exactly its a crapshoot. If its different speed RAM, rule of thumb is putting the slower latency modules in the first slots and the faster RAM in the latter slots. Ive mixed different brands and speeds numerous times with success.

It actually may not detect a stick or 2. Mixing RAM is a bad idea, I mean, it won't break the RAM, but I had 2x 4GB sticks, 1x 2GB stick and 1x 8GB stick once, all of them the same clock, and Windows only detected 10GB, and 9.5 was usable. So it's unreliable or unpredictable.

Way back when I never had a problem mixing/matching memory, today is said to be different in that there are no promises that it will work, though it most likely will.

Install the memory in matching channels though. If your memory slots are color coded, install the matching memory in the matching colors. (If they aren't, refer to the manual, but it's usually alternating slots.)

Worst thing that happens is that it doesn't work, but it may if you swap the slots.

If your mobo and OS support 24GB and the memory is feeling nice enough to not crap out, then you'd get the full 24GB with no performance loss. Theoretically at least. However, mixing memory is never guaranteed to work. Memory is only guaranteed to work with other memory in the same kit that shipped together.
