my old mobo popped and i had to grab a new one, i went from an old
z68 + i52400 to a b85 + i54460

i had no chance to back up my files from my hdd so i decided to just willy nilly install my mobo and boot, this ended up in me using my win 7 bootable usb to try and reinstall windows
this hdd is one i got recently and i had a fresh win 7 on it with not much stuff, so i decided to just blast it.

but.. when i booted from my usb it wouldnt ask for a fresh install of windows 7, instead i get taken to system repair and it asks me to repair my computer, i decided to use diskpart via comand prompt
i cleaned it and formated the drive..

thing is when i restarted and rebooted from the usb it would still automatically take me to the system recovery options... i have no idea why.. i have no experience with using diskpart and just followed some guides i found online, did i do something wrong? is there a way to reset my hdd back to factory default so i can just get this over with and reinstall windows fresh.

IF you had an OEM version of windows 7, once installed on a mobo, it will not install on other motherboards. You might have locked yourself out of using it again if you cleaned the orig hard drive with diskpart.

fyi - windows retail versions can be installed on another mobo, but not more than one installation "live" at a time

i ended up fixing it with pure dumb luck
my windows isnt OEM so thats probably why this worked somehow.
anyway as it was booting from the usb i pulled it out(i was at my wits end here), and it ended up giving me a an option to go into
windows set up (EMS enabled)
i jumped in and got it to install win 7 back into the hdd again

kinda odd that it did that...
