Worth it to upgrade from a GTX 770 4GB SC to a GTX 970 for 1080p @60+ FPS?

Taking a plunge into skylake from a sandy bridge setup and am looking for some insight regarding the GTX 770 4GB.

Background info: I grabbed a 7170 skylake motherboard, an i5 6600K and 16GB of DDR4 the other day and plan on getting some new 1080p monitors soon (currently using two 1366x768 TV’s). My card is a PNY GTX 770 4GB SC and I am currently able to get 60+ FPS on most new games @ 1366x768 with high settings depending on optimization.

The predicament: I am now wondering if I should upgrade my GTX 770 4GB to a 970 (or comparable card), or spend the money on the monitor(s) budget. Ive got $300ish total to spend.

The question: Is a 770 4GB able to handle 1080p at 60FPS on high”ish” settings for most games? I can make sacrifices on anti-aliasing etc. for now if it holds me over until Pascal or a higher end GPU later on this year.

Thoughts?

I currently have the GTX 770 2GB and most of my bottlenecking in terms of FPS is in my processor running at 4.2GHz. I am getting around 100 FPS at 1080 on Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 which is a recently released game. You're current card will definitely run games 60+ FPS at 1080 especially with those upgrades you got.

One thing to keep in mind, and what I am planning on doing, is the new series of NVidea cards is coming out in May. Considering the release is so close and your current card is more than capable of meeting your goals, might be worth it to hold out until then. Who knows maybe by then you can save up 600$ and go for the GTX980 equivalent.

I dont think the 770 will be able to push the latest AAA stuff on 60fps, but should be decent until you decide to cash down on a gpu upgrade. I would hold on until the 1070 or whatever the ' 70 ' series is on pascal. Should be among the first cards to get listed and shouldnt be as long as the ' 80ti ' equivalent.

Ok great thats good to hear. I'll do some more research but it looks like its going to be monitor purchases for now. I should have plenty of time to save up for a nicer card around May/early summer. 980 equivalent sounds good!

Thanks for your input!
