Hi there!

Rookie alert!

Recently my Asus R9 290 died and shop replaced it for Asus R9 290x Matrix.

Old one was powered by 8pin and 6pin cables.
New one has got 8pin and 8pin.

However, I have got only one 8pin to 6+2pin. I plug it in, fits perfect.
Second one I got is 6pin to 8pin. I can't plug it, right? There is not enough power in 6pin?

I can't find 8pin to 8pin anywhere. It's weird, because I have one of these in my hand.

PSU: OCZ ModXStream Pro 600W

Any ideas? Should I use some adaptors?

I recommend a new unit, it dosent have the necessary connections which is a good sign it isnt up to the task of running the card.
On a side note, why are you using an 8 pin to 6+2? Just plug the 8 pin right in. Unless you mean the 8 pin to the PSU.

I have this 8 to 6+2:

But I do have 8pin out on my PSU:
(red ones - exact two for graphic card?)

So why there is second 8pin out from PSU if it can't hadle second 8pin cable?

Do you have any suggestion for ~700w PSU that can do the job for about next 5 years? (upgrades of graphic card included in this time :) )

In Poland this PSU is waaaaay more expensive (100+ $)

What do you think about these below?
Chieftec Force CPS-750S
Zalman ZM700-GLX
Chieftec GPS-700A8

none of those are any good at all

you really want a GOOD 650w power supply with the proper cables

tier 1 or 2 unit from this list:

Ok, I did some research. Found these:
XFX XXX 650W Pro Modular (P1-650X-XXB9)
Fractal Design 650W Tesla R2 Gold (FD-PSU-TS2W-650W)

They are both in the same price in my shop.

XFX is in Tier1, isn't it? But in this list there is "Seasonic" adnotation and I don't know what it is.

Fractal Design is Tier 2/3 - but I couldn't find Tesla on this list - so I should cross it out and take XFX?

If yes, there is LAST question - on this graphic card there is 4pin MOLEX connector on the back edge of the video card. It's only for alternative cooling feature (Memory Defroster)? I'm not going to use it - but I have to plug it anyway?

that xfx is top tier yes

it means it is made by seasonic, but branded by xfx

you dont need to use the memory heater, that is only useful for LN2 cooling and doesnt apply to you
