Is it okay to put a system repair image on my backup external hard drive?

The topic of this thread says it all pretty much.

I'm sorry for asking such a dumb question.

Can I put a system repair image on my backup external hard drive? Or is it better to put it on a dvd disc?

Alright. Yeah I was able to put it on a DVD Disc. It had enough space.

For future reference, do I need to keep updating the Disc or is it just a OS backup image?

Also I'm thinking of updating to Windows 10 so should I make another system image of that OS? Or can I overwrite my windows 7 DVD backup disc?

There is no restriction where you can put it but is your intention BOOTing from this external drive when the main drive fails? Boot from DVD OK.

Not recovery partition expert, but at its size of ~100MB, that ain't gonna hold no OS image. I wager just enough code to boot a mini-Windows, WinPE? and enough tools toward recovery.
