So i randomly ran into a problem where games would begin to lag and stutter for me when before they would run smoothly. Ended up opening my case to do a little dusting even though it was never very dusty to begin with.

Noticed my CPU cooler was not fully secure making it wobble slightly. I tightened it up best i could. Game began to run smoothly for me again. Decided to download HWMonitor to check up on all my temps.

Under load its telling me the max temp all 4 cores of my processor got up to was 100 degrees Celsius exactly or 212 degrees Fahrenheit. From what i know this is very high temps, but did not affect performance.

I also do not feel a whole lot of heat coming from my PC. Is this data correct? Dont processors have a safety feature that automatically shut down when dangerously hot?

Should i upgrade my cooler or maybe just get some thermal glue and try to resat the stock cooler? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks! SPECS. CPU: Intel core i5 4690k GPU: EVGA GTX 660 2GB MB: Gigabyte Z97x RAM: 8GB DDR3

Solution
At a minimum you need to replace the thermal paste; a better cooler wouldn't hurt. At 100°C the CPU stats throttling; it's bad both for the CPU and performance.
