Hey all, first of all let me thank you in advance for taking your time to go through this :)

So my situation is this: I have been using my old desktop for 5 years now which was ok for playing Planet Side 2, WoW, GW2, Dota 2 etc. There were always some FPS issues when entering big battles and stuff but with all the new games that came out (and will in the future) I really feel it's time to upgrade.

I will only be upgrading couple of components which are motherboard, CPU, GPU and RAM - hopefully my PSU will be able to handle it (more on that later). I have mostly made a couple choices for each component which I will link later in text so what I really need is help deciding between those (and of course anything else in that category if you believe it to be a better option).

So here is the template mentioned in the sticky:

Approximate Purchase Date: Probably around next two months
Budget Range: Around 600 GBP but it's not completely fixed
System Usage: Gaming mostly
Are you buying a monitor: No
Current PSU (which I hopefully won't have to upgrade): FSP Epsilon 700W PSU here - please note that it is 5 years old...
Parts to Upgrade: Here are my ideas:

Motherboard: Asus Z170 PRO Gaming (1st choice) vs Gigabyte GA-Z170MX-Gaming 5 vs MSI Z170A Gaming PRO

GPU: Asus 4 GB Strix GTX970 Nvidia vs Asus AMD R9 390 Strix Gaming OC

CPU: Intel Core i5-6600K

RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: www.amazon.co.uk
Location: Croatia
Overclocking: Maybe
SLI or Crossfire: Maybe
Your Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080

Additional Comments:
1. I wonder if those motherboards can actually fit the GPU I would like
2. I am unsure about my choice of GPU... I have so far had both AMD and Nvidia and both seamed ok but what I like about those 2 Asus's is their added cooling abilities and relative silence. On the other hand, I could go with normal GTX 970 or R9 390 if for some reason you think they are better options.
3. I hope CPU and RAM are valid (strong enough) for this build but please comment with advice and ideas.
4. Also I'll be using Samsung EVO 250gb ssd

And again, thanks in advance :)

One of the most important upgrade would be your Power supply Unit. A quality 600W~650W; 800W~850W (SLI/Crossfire) should be enough for long run. Here's the Tier list of the PSU's, any psu from tier 1 or 2 and you're good to go. Make your choice which fits your budget and of course make your selection based on availability. :http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html

Video card: My advice say's, wait few more months until pascal line up GPU's gets released. Or R9 390 looks a better option for price.
Memory: Generally, games runs pretty well at 8 GB, so you could save some money and the remaining share could be well use for a quality power supply unit.

Rest seems fine to me.

Ok cool, I'll take a look at those PSUs.

About the GPU, my best guess is that pascal line is going to be way over my budget so It's kinda not in my budget range.

Thanks for advice

And what makes you so sure about that?. There could a better alternative than 970 and R9 390 with the same price tag or a bit higher. Personally, I would say getting a GPU now is a waste. So for experiencing the full Direct X 12 features, it could be a good step for you if make your decision with pascal and that is just a suggestion.
