Hey, i have a anti-static wrist strap but not a matt. I saw a youtube video from Linustechtips and he had a building guide where he used an antistatic wrist strap and a matt. Do i need both ot is a wrist strap enough? I am building my gaming pc today. An also, i should not stand on a carpet, what other things should i not do?

Solution
a grounding strap, is all you need. grounding mats are a little overkill. if you are wearing a grounding strap you can stand on anything, provided the strap is properly grounded.

a mat and a strap are both useless if the ground they are connecting to is faulty.

Don't run your fingers through your hair, especially not if it's newly washed. Avoid cats, wool shirts and socks. Anything that builds up static.
Wrist strap, matt are optional. Touch some metal now and then. Preferably right before you touch computer parts.

Ok, where do i place the clip? the case? it is a fractal r5 black, so it is painted. I have also heard that you should connect the strap to the psu, turnes off, but have the cable in the wall. Is that the best option? Can i wear shoes so that i am not getting cold? I live in Norway :)

yeah wear shoes, the clip can go on any piece of metal on the grounded power supply,(making sure the power is connected). if the power supply is in the case then you can touch any bare metal in the case. ( I usually select a screw that holds the power supply in place) you can wear shoes, the reason I told you to ground every time you move your feet.

wall power>PSU>case plugged in but turned off
at this point any bare (unpainted) metal in the case will be a grounding spot.
