Hi, I've been running 1X8GB of Corsair CMZ8GX3M1A1600C9 Vengeance ram for about a year and decided to buy a second 8GB stick of the exact same model to bump me up to 16GB which my board does support but for some reason the computer won't boot with the new stick installed, my chassis fans will start up every few seconds in a loop and everything is works fine with only the old stick installed.

I thought the problem might have just been the CMOS so I removed it twice, the first time for about a minute whilst holding down the power button and the second time for about 20 mins but have had no success with either attempt, I have also tried a BIOS update. Am I possibly looking at a faulty stick or is there something else that I haven't tried yet?

What mobo and CPU - Also what CPU cooler? Mixing sticks from different packages offers no guarantees and can often be problematic, can try upping the DRAM voltage + 0.05 and possibly the MC voltage (need mobo to determine what that is called on the given mobo)

the mobo is an Asus H81M-PLUS, the CPU is an I5 4690K running at stock speeds and my cooler is the Hyper 212 EVO.
I didn't think there would be any problems with the stick as it is the same model as the one that I was already using so there shouldn't be any compatibility issues.

As mentioned ANY time you mix DRAM from different packages, there are no guarantees they will play nice. You can go straight to the factory and pull two sticks off the line, and they might play - they might not, that is why they test DRAM together, to ensure DRAM in a package plays nice

I can totally understand why the 2 sticks might not work well together but the computer won't even start with just the new stick inserted which is why I was thinking that it may be faulty.
