TheLegendaryBanana :
what is the best site to get pc parts off of for a really good price?
TheLegendaryBanana,
Newegg has a very good selection, fast delivery, and the website is reasonably well setup and the search has improved. I used to never see exact search results, especially for memory. If I enter a search for "8GB DDR3-1866 ECC", I have listings for motherboards, and all kinds all pieces. I don't like to wade through all kinds of semi- or unrelated lstings
As for prices, I've found that it's worth comparing Newegg with Superbiiz:
http://www.superbiiz.com
The CPU's and motherboard seem to be better priced there, but Newegg is better for SSD's and drives. I'm always after workstation components and Superbiiz also carries some items that Newegg doesn't, for example Xeon E5-1600 series CPU's.
Another good site is TigerDirect.com:

> and they sometimes have the best prices of all. However, I tend to forget to check them.
The elephant in the cheapness room is Ebahhh and I've gotten the most amazing prices there as occasionally, no one is paying attention to an auction:
Purchased for $53 _ $25 shipping (12.12.15):
Precision T3500 (2009) (Original) Xeon W3530 4-core @ 2.8 /3.06GHz > 4GB (2X 2GB) DDR3-1333 ECC > GeForce 9800 GT (1GB)> WD Black 500GB
[[Passmark system rating = 1963, CPU = 4482 / 2D= 609 / 3D=805 / Mem= 1409 / Disk=1048]
> I had this system running two hours after opening the box. In the next two weeks I bought a Xeon X5677 4-core @ 3.47 /3.73GHz for $60 and 8GB of DDR-3-1333 ECC for $43. Using a Quadro, RAID controller and drives I had around, my $185 system became:
Precision T3500 (2011) (Rev 2) Xeon X5677 4-core @ 3.47 /3.73GHz > 12GB (6X 2GB) DDR3-1333 ECC > Quadro 4000 (2GB) > PERC 6/i +Seagate 300GB 15K SAS ST3300657SS + WD Black 500GB > 525W PSU> Windows 7 Professional 64-bit > 2X Dell 19" LCD
[Passmark system rating = 2751, CPU = 7236 / 2D= 658 / 3D=2020 / Mem= 1875 / Disk=1221]
So, Ebay can't be beat in most cases. Sometimes it is more expensive, especially for items that drop in price over time: used SSD's can cost more than new ones twice as fast. I do buy used CPU's, RAM, and graphics card and the occasional workstation:
Amazon can have among the best prices, but for me their search is a disaster- there's is some kind of odd built-in vagueness. No matter how specific a search I make, finding computer components there is time-consuming as they throw in the kitchen sink. I find that on Amazon I have to add four or five manual filters in the search box to subtract all the things that appear. The searches look like:[ Item
-attribute 1
-attribute 2
-attribute 3
-attribute 4 ]. I have to mention too that last year I ordered a hard drive and a cable and it arrived wrapped in bubble wrap inside a folded over, stapled piece of cardboard that was open on one end. The drive survived, but I vowed I would never buy any mechanical drive from there again.
Cheers,
