Are Intel Boards Decent for Retro Gaming?

I'm planing on building an XP-based rig for retro games via DOSBox, and older Windows 9x/XP based games, and I was wondering. Most of the motherboards I see for cheap out there are mainly Intel boards. My question is this, are the Intel boards decent for retro games?

These are my current planned specifications:

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0 GHz
Nvidia GeForce 7950 GT PCIe
4 GB RAM
etc, etc, non-important.

Would an Intel board be alright for this? I plan to play mainly old games, and every now-and-then, some newer XP-based games that require more processing power.

Just check the board makers website to ensure you can get the drivers for XP. Also check for video drivers, but I do not thin that is an issue since even the GTX8800 worked on XP.

DOSBox works on newer operating systems as well. What XP games can you not play on say 7/8?

Thanks for the responses. I know DOSBox runs on modern systems, I use it quite often. It cannot however run Windows 9x games, which many do not run on modern Windows versions, but have a better chance of running with XP with some tweaking. And yes, I could use a virtual machine, but they typically don't have good hardware acceleration, so I'd rather build a dedicated rig for the job.

This has been my experience as well. Windows 9x games, especially 3d accelerated and Glide API wrapper dependent ones can be a pain (unless it was a super popular game that's being kept alive through community patches). Good luck with your rig. Let us know how it pans out?

I currently don't have the funds available to build it just yet, so it'll probably be a few months, but when I do, I will certainly post about how it went in this thread.

One thing I'm also curious about is how to get around those 16-bit installers....
