Hello, i have recently upgraded to a MSI GTX 980, after the card arriving, i saw one of the heat pipes is dented, i didn't take much notice of it as i thought it wouldn't cause a problem. I'm not a computer expert, i did some research on it but i couldn't find anything about it.

I have included some images of the GPU, could someone please help me if this will affect the performance of the GPU in anyway? Is it worth keeping, returning or replacing?

Thank you in advance.

Its not going to adversely affect anything. If anyone tells you it otherwise, they are blowing smoke.

Asthetically, its displeasing, does it bother you? Then return it for a replacement. You paid all the money for that item, you have a right for it to come in undamaged. Something to think about, are you the type to sell your used products? That dent may or may not effect resale value.

If it were me, I would send in for a new one since I like my stuff looking good. But if you have a case where you can't even see it. I wouldn't worry about it.

EDIT: Looking at the picture a little closer, what's going on with that yellow wire that is pulled tight? Looks risky to me. I would cut it and extend it with some spare wire and some but...

Thank you for the reply, your answer has helped me a lot, not so worried about it now, i have spoke with Dabs.com (where i bought the card), i cannot return it but i'm trying to arrange a replacement. It does looks fairly bad which i don't like, i'm rebuilding my PC into a case with a side panel window where you will be able to see the damage. I'm not a fan of the damage, i want everything to be spot on in my new build.

I have sold my old GPU, i would sell this one after i upgrade which is a very good point which i will keep in my mind, i don't like the dent and i'm sure that others wont either.

I will try to get a replacement, not sure Dabs.com will replace it but then i will contact MSI directly as the card is under warranty for 1 year.

At the end of the day, i did pay a lot of money for this and i don't want the card to be displeasing.

Thank you for the answer, it helped me a lot, i see it from a different perspective now :)

That yellow cable is for the side panel fan, i put the panel to the side that's why it seems tight, not bothering to alter it now as i'm building a new PC shortly.
