Hello all, first time PC builder noob here.

So the problem I am having is I can't get my ram to run at 2400Mhz, it simply wont post at that speed. 2133Mhz seems to work fine (haven't stress tested though) I've read various things on here about timings etc but being the noob I am its all a little over my head.

The reason I want it to run at 2400 is because of the APU. Usage is generally average things like browsing, youtube etc with some light gaming thrown in for good measure.

MoBO - A88XM-Plus (Bios Version 2502)
CPU - AMD A10-7870k (stock cooler for the time being)
RAM - HyperX Savage 2400Mhz CL11 8GB (2x4)
SSD - SanDisk 120GB
HDD - Western Digital Blue 1TB
PSU - EVGA 500W 80+Bronze
OS - Windows 10 64-bit
Random case
Some corsair case fans

I've read people being able to run 2400 with the 7870k and Ive also read that it only supports up to 2133. Should I try and get it to work at 2400 or settle for 2133?

Also should I stress test my ram at whichever speed I settle for and if yes, which program is best?

Apologies for long post.

Plez halp.

I would say settle with the 2133. If you've read that it only supports up to 2133, it would be smarter and safer to go that route rather then try to do something that could damage your components.

I have gone with2133, better to be safe than sorry. I'm under the impression 2133 is a pretty good speed to go with an APU anyway. One thing still bothers me though - see images:

Image 1 states in CPU-Z that it is running 1600 (797.8 x 2 or thereabouts) which ties up with 1600 seen in task manager

HOWEVER

Image 2 shows in CPUZ it's running at 2133 (1066.4 x 2 etc etc...) yet it still states 1600 in task manager.

So is it actually running 2133 and task manager is wrong or...?

The first image shows 1600 the seconds is at 2133, task manager is simply showing the default boot data rate of 1600. 2400 is probably possible depending on the sticks and will prob need a bit of a CPU OC and additional voltage to the MC (memory controller). What's the model # of the DRAM, if they are made to loose timings already say 2400/12 the gain in getting to 2400 may not be worth it
