Hello,

I recently bought an Asus MG279Q 1440P 144Hz IPS gaming monitor.
I am using it with a Gigabyte GTX 770, the 2gb model. (GV-N770OC-2GD)
(I know the 2gb is not much, but I only play games like Dota2 and Osu!, so I don't think it is gonna be much of an issue for me).
There is only one small problem, unfortunately. I can only run it at 120Hz.
When I first contacted Asus support about this they said it was a firmware problem and i had to rma it. The weird thing is though, the replacement model doesn't get over 120Hz either. So the next guy from Asus said I needed FreeSync in order for the 144Hz to work, but I call bullsh*t on that one because in the specs of the monitor it says with FreeSync enabled you can only get to 90Hz. Now the last guy I had on the phone told me it was my graphics card that doesn't support 144Hz on a 1440P resolution (although I can't get it to work on 1080P either). So now I just don't know what to believe anymore as you can probably understand. I hope one of you guys can confirm this last statement from Asus for me? Or is it just some nonsense?
Just to clear things up, I'm using DisplayPort 1.2.

Many thanks!
-Rik.

I personally have the GTX 770 MSI TwinFrozr 2GB Edition and I'm using it with the BenQ XL2411Z 144Hz @ 1080p, connected through a DVI-D cable. I personally had no problems with this. Since you also can't get it to work @ 1080p, I think the customer support doesn't really know what they are talking about. I would just try to return it and buy a different monitor. Sorry, that my answer might not be that helpful, but I wanted to share my thoughts.

Splendid
Have you installed the driver for the monitor?
http://www.asus.com/uk/Monitors/MG279Q/HelpDesk_Download/
(Description MG279Q WHQL driver File Size 9.88 KBytes)

edit looks like they dont have a driver for win10 but for 8/7 one is available

I went thru the manual and there is a setting for:
"DisplayPort Stream
: Compatibility with graphic card. Select DP 1.1 or DP 1.2 by graphic card DP version"
I assume you already have it on dp1.2 but thought i'd bring it up anyway :) (edit, nope, even 1.1 should have enough bandwidth for 1080@144Hz, so this cant be the reason. sorry for pointless post :F)

btw the freesync range on this monitor is weird, 35 to 90hz. Sort of expected it to go all the way to the max rate supported, but nope stops 54Hz short.. like wtf?? Got a bit excited to get one myself but... maybe not :/

edit2 maybe there is something wrong with the cable you are using?

Im using the 1.2 setting already yea. I thought it maybe was the cable too, as they shipped it with an mini-DP. So I went out and bought a new one at the local tech store and asked specifically if it could handle 1440P 144Hz. The guy confirmed that so i bought it, but unfortunately it doesn't help :( thanks for the reply anyway!
