Hey everyone!

So a couple days ago i got a bargain on two r9 290x's and i want to run them in crossfire. Now when i did that purchase i obviously knew the fx-8370 wouldn't cut it xD
But anyways. I have looked at the i5 4690k and i ask myself, is the 16 lanes enough? If i put those two cards in crossfire they would each be in 8x mode which would be fine of course. But i also have this wireless pcie card which takes 1x or 4x so my understanding is that one of the crossfired cards will jump down to 4x speed which will bottleneck it if im correct? Also the other thing is, would i see any severe bottlenecks with the i5 4690k? I will upgrade to the 4790k in the future though so that wont be an issue, the 4690k would be temporary. I was looking at the 5820k but the x99 motherboards are expensive as well as the cpu itself. So anyways, i appreciate all feedback, thanks!

Solution
Get a 6600k.
Not only because the skylake platform is newer (and packed full of features) but also because the processor supports 16 PCIe lanes in addition to 20 lanes on the z170 chipset

Don't even think about the i7-5820k over the i7-4790k, just throw that idea away. The 4790k may not have as many cores, but the single core performance on it, makes up for the lacking of cores, not to mention the cache on the thing is just extreme. Take it from someone with the actual processor.

Now on to the question, yes it will handle it. It's just a matter of your PSU handling it. The 290x's are power hungry cards, and are hard to feed.

Single core performance is not better than the i7-5820k. At the same clock speed the core performance is atleast equal, if not better on the i7-5820k. How did you do your research? Did you ignore the clock speeds they're running at out of the box, and that the lower clock speed on the 5820k is literally the only reason It's slower? The i7-5820k is a better processor.

Yeah i know the CX750M has to go, its a tier 3 also. Im going for the RM1000i which is platinum or gold, i think its gold though but dont remember.
Also thanks for all the replies, im going to consider the 6600k though because of the 20 extra motherboard lanes. Is this 20 lanes thing with all z170 chipset motherboards?
