Can a iþ 4460 run a 2133mhz ram on h97 mobo?

Really? my Z87 chipset has 4x8GB modules running at DDR3-2133.

It will work you will have to load the XMP profile in the BIOS or manually key in the speed and timings.

I also have another Z87 chipset running 4x4GB DDR3-2133 as well... http://imgur.com/7G18zY3 (Note the dual channel mode so 1066 x 2 = ~2133)

not depending only on mobo. i see you have i7 4770k , has a lot stronger IMC than i5 4460.

Maybe so but that doesn't flat out mean it wont work on his system. Also the 4460 is a newer revision of Haswell than my 4770k and 4670k.

If we knew the motherboard and the DRAM would could give a more definitive answer. If the DRAM voltage for 2133 is 1.5v or close to 1.5v it should be fine. Also checking on the motherboards QVL list will help answer the question.

QVL lists usually state the following, regarding high speed memory modules "The stability and compatibility of these memory modules depend on the CPU’s capabilities'' that means such ram is best suited for unlocked i5/i7 and not for low or mid range cpu. also by experience , i havent seen any of the locked i5 go beyond 1866mhz . i have built non k i7 running 2133mhz but not i5.!

+1 The MC of the CPU is the primary factor in determining what DRAM you CAN run (at least at the DRAMs spec), i.e. sure can take a lower tier (non-K and even run 2800 DRAM - however you might be lucky to run it AT 1866-2133. . Support on H97 mobos is generally limited to 1600 and with a 4460 you can generally run 1866 and occasionally 2133. Only wish it was as easy as just enabling XMP - need the hardware to run it ;)
