I have a Msi Z97 gaming 5 motherboard, i7 4790k processor, Corsair CP-9020055-UK RM Series RM750 80 Plus Gold 750W ATX/EPS Fully Modular Power Supply Unit, Cooler Master Seindon 120V cpu cooler,
HyperX Savage 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) 2400 MHz DDR3 CL11 UDIMM XMP Memory Module, Fractal Design Define S Window Edition Black Mid Tower case, 2x Fractal Design Dynamic GP14 140mm fans.

When idle the PC it sits at a steady 30 degree, however when I start rendering images in Autodesk 3ds Max the temperature goes straight up to 90-100 degrees.

I've taken off the water cooling unit to put new thermal paste on however still high temperatures.

Please could someone help me workout what's wrong?

I would first check to be sure that the pump is connected to a 3 pin header that is set to full speed. It may be on a header that is not running full RPM. Then be sure the rad fan is connected to the CPU FAN header like the stock fan was.
