I'm in the process of building a new skylake based PC. While I've built my share of PCs, I have not ever ventured into the realm of overclocking, but this build should be cabable. In general, due to my inexperience, I was thinking starting with baby steps on something like memory. The memory I purched lists itself as DDR4 3000Mhz, which my motherboard shows as supported via overclocking. From what I have gathered, it appears as simple as increasing the memory voltage from the DDR4 default of 1.2V to 1.35V, then setting the timing to the recomended 15-17-17-35.
Is it really that simple or am I missing steps?
Do I need to take anything else into consideration, such as extra cooling specific to the memory?
Can I do this without overclocking my CPU (yet)?
Do I need to perform stress testing like I read about for CPU overclock?
CPU: i7-6700K
Motherboard: Asus Z170-A
Memory: Corsair 16GB (4x4) CMK16GX4M4B3000C15
