My question is, since this is my first time building, should I buy my parts first and build it, then buy his? Or should I just buy them all now and go for it?

Really appreciate any advice, thanks!

Solution
For your 1st build I would think you should go for a more simple build 1st. In your case I would order the parts separately so there is less chance on you getting the parts mixed up between the two PCs. Using a grounding strap and ground yourself before and during the build.

Perhaps sign up for an adult night school computer class where you can bring the parts to class and have the professor help you.
