GTX 970 SLI should I worry about compatibility issues?

I planning on getting a second gtx 970 card to run both cards in SLI on my gaming rig. I am pretty sure it does but just to check, does the Asus z87-PRO support SLI with these two cards and i won't experience any bottle-necking with these cards will I? ( I also have an intel i7 4790k and 16gb 1333MHZ RAM). Do most modern games support SLI such as battlefield, CS-GO, skyrim, dota 2, arma 3, assassins creed and other popular games etc. Also how would I go about running my cards in SLI is it as easy as fitting the new card and plugging in the wires etc? My build is custom built by myself so I know there will be enough space for another card etc. Many thanks, Tom.

to get sli working, you plug in the card to the mobo, the power cords to the card, the sli ribbon between the cards, and start the pc. on your desktop, right click the desktop and click nvidia control panel. then under 3d settings choose "configure sli, surround, physx" in first section choose the first option, "maximize 3d performance". with that you have it working. be aware it sometimes unselects. for me, its usually with a driver update. just have to reenable it.

as for the second setting, about physx, i suggest you leave it to auto select.

yes the mobo supports sli.

as for performance....sigh. ok, so i also have a 4790k and 16gigs of 1333 ram. i have 2 gigabyte g1 970s in sli. i got this while i was playing witcher 3...
You have the Motherboard and you don't know if it will do SLI? The manual should say and if there is a SLI Bridge in the box that is also a good indication. You can also google your motherboard and check the Asus website.

honestly, this year with taxes im thinking of selling them and upgrading to a 980ti. its performance is about where 2 970s in sli are at their best, and i wont have to deal with all the compatability issues.

then there are things like ghosting. people who hate on sli all the time like to mentions stuff like this. idk if its really that common, but i saw it sometimes with witcher 3. its like the 2 cards are producing their output 1 too many frames apart, so you can kinda see a little double image.

in the end, i dont really regret my decision to go with sli. at the time it was all my budget allowed, honestly its just a boost and not needed most of the time as a single 970 can push 1080 just fine, and plus i love how it looks in the system. i just think im ready to upgrade again. maybe its just the enthusiast in me, idk.

so if its all your budget allows and you're willing to have patience with the compatability, go for it. if you can save for an upgrade, maybe you should. really up to whatever will make you happy. but i figured my very comparable experience would be food for though.

thank you very much for the response, my build is not budget orientated so I may also consider going with the gtx 980 ti, for me it's more about performance than anything, but thank you again.
