My question is: What would happen if I unplugged my ssd?

So let me give some detail. I have a hard drive that I use as my main storage, I put my OS, games and basically everything. I did however also buy an ssd to backup everything in case my hdd fails. I only have 2 sata cables, one for hhd and ssd. I need to plug a optical drive in to download some stuff onto my PC, so I thought I'd just unplug my ssd since I'm not even really using it right now (ill probably buy another cable in a few weeks). So again, what would happen if I unplugged my ssd for a month or so? I cant really find anything on this subject so Im asking you lot haha. PS I do have an OS on it.

Solution
You have an unusual configuration. Typically consumers use a solid state drive as the primary boot drive. The operating system, drivers, utilities, software appliations, and some favorite games are installed on the ssd for maximum performance. A hard disk drive is used for secondary data storage, more games, and backups.

If the operating system is still on the hard disk drive and the hard drive is the primary boot drive, then pretty much nothing will happen if you remove the ssd. You just won't have the use of the ssd for data storage and backups. Nothing much will happen when you reconnect the ssd. The data stored on the ssd will still be accessible.

When you mention SATA cables I assume you mean the ssd data cable that is connected...

When you mention SATA cables I assume you mean the ssd data cable that is connected to a motherboard and not the ssd power cable which is connected to the power supply. Motherboards typically comes with either 2 or 4 SATA data cables. Additonal cables can be purchase online and they do not need to be expensive. If you are in the USA, monoprice.com is an excellent source of quality SATA cables that cost less than $1.00:

In the event you have a small form factor case there are SATA cables available in shorter lengths:
