Hello im looking at an ECGA GTX 950 FTW. The graphics card comes with a free 2 six pin to 8 pin pcie connector, but my powersupply has only one 6 pin connector. Is it ok if i just plug in one six pin connector into the adapter or do i need to get another 6 pin connector for it to work.

Solution
The graphics card is going to check to determine if an 8-pin PCIe power connector is attached. The extra two pins don't actually carry any power. They are jumpers that indicate to the graphics card that it is allowed to draw 150 Watts through the other 6 pins of the PCIe connector instead of the usual 75 Watts of the 6-pin only PCIe power connector.

You could try using the dual 6-pin to 8-pin PCIe adapter with only one of the 6-pin connectors connected to the power supply but there's no guarantee that it will work but the chances are good that it will work.
What's the brand and model of the power supply unit?

The presence of only one 75-Watt 6-pin PCI Express supplementary power connector on the power supply unit would indicate an insufficient +12 Volt continuous current capacity.

The EVGA GeForce GTX 950 FTW GAMING ACX 2.0 requires a 150 Watt 8-pin PCI Express supplementary power connector because the card may draw more than 150 Watts when overclocked.

I have an antec earthwatts 380d green. The geforce website says that the 950 reccomends 350 watts. so it should be able to handle it

That gpu has a TDP of 90w. So total power on your system should be around 300w or so in a factory default state. A hard gaming session might broach @260w. Well within tolerances.

The psu 12v rails are around 27-28A at most, which is above the 19A minimum system requirements for that card.

I don't see any reason why the card wouldn't be fine in your pc, as long as it remains at factory settings. Any OC of gpu or cpu will stress the limits of that psu quickly.

But can i use the 1 6 pin pci connector on the 2 pcie 6 pin to 1 8pin for the card to work

Would you also reccomend using a molex to 6 pin adapter to use in the dual 6 pin to 8 pin? I might just go with that to be safe, but i dont want to use too many adapters

Sure. It's better to distribute the electrical current draw over more wires anyway.

Hi Gottagosanchez, I have the exact same scenario as you. An evga gtx 950 with an 8 pin to 2 x 6 pin adapter. But my power supply is 430 watts and only has one 6 pin connector.

Did using just one of the 6 pins work for you?

Thanks
