HI, I am planning to buy Rise Of The Tomb Raider but I am in dilemma to purchase Physical Copy or digital version. Does the physical version (DVD) comes with full game or we need to download whole game from Steam. Please apprise me regarding this. Thank you:)

Solution
It`s a very good question JC5011.

I can see why you ask.
At 25GB if you bought the game from a shop, you should get the game install disks included in box.
About two or three disks so you can install the game on your system with the key to register it on steam also.

Obviously a 25GB file Digital download bothers you in some way due to either the speed of your broadband connection.
Or if download usage and GB capping apply to you.

So I can see your need to ask the question about the Game on disk.

When you enter your valid steam code for the game it will also as i`m sure you know add it for digital download also from your games locker.

Any updates, and steam will inform you there is a new Patch for the game if it requires it for...

HI unksol. Thank you for the reply. I am aware that I need to use Steam to activate the game and download patches. I am asking whether I need to download the whole game from Steam i.e around 25 GB or the whole game will be in the disk. Thank you once again for your reply:)

Sadly this is the future though, and you will see less games on physical media a few more years down the line.
Digital downloading wins.
It`s cheaper than having to make a case, the cover, and press and copy the media onto a medium to supply it.

Thank you Shaun for the detailed explanation. I thought buying Physical copy would save time and bandwidth. I just asked the retailer and he said the game comes with only 2 disk, therefore I believe 90 % of the game should be downloaded from steam. If I order from steam I also get 10 % discount, hence I will be ordering from Steam. Thank you once again for taking your time and explaining:)

Yup, valid question! Happened with me with Star Wars: Battlefront. I found out that even if you buy the retail disk, you still need to download the entire game. That's why I went for the online purchase ultimately. Imagine the spite of those who purchased it and found out that you still needed to download the entire thing!

Given the size of the game is 25 GB, I'm pretty sure the 'entire' game would not be on the discs and that a chunk of it would have to be downloaded (maybe 8-10 GB).....assuming the DVD's contain 7-8 GB per disc.
