How to activate your graphics card

recently I have discovered how I have been using on board graphics this whole time and now i want them removed. I've been looking around in the BIOS but i cant find anything can someone navigate me or tell me what to do. Mother board: Gigabyte GA-B85M-D3H Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
Bios version: F13

You do not need to disable the onboard. You install a GPU and plug your monitor into that. That's it.

well its using Intel HD 4600 instead of my Radeon R9 so its kinda aa major downgrade thats super crippling

i just tried plugging in the HDMI to the graphics card and nothing worked it just was black for a min. until i switched it back to write this message
and i accidentally marked yours as the solution (im a bit of a noob )

Shut the system down. Then move the connection to the gpu and turn it back on. If that doesnt work you may need to enter the bios a set the primary display adapter to peg (pci express graphics).

after some tinkering in my system i finally got it to work no bios required thanks for the massive amount of help dude your the best
