Hey there,

I know there are a lot of threads asking about HDD or SSD setup but i got a bit of unusual one and i cant really decide what to get.

I built a budget gaming pc and using an old 160 sata II HDD from my old pc, and being a 5 years old HDD and used ALOT im having some crashes with it and some slows

now that i have some money i was browsing around my area and i can afford a 120Gb kingston SSD or go for a 500Gb or a bit more on 1TB HDD both SATA III

if i get a SSD i would use it for windows and use the old one for games im currently at 20gb free from 160gb and i delete everything i dont need regularly but the drive sometimes crashed and i have a blue screen of death or it lags when i log in to windows...

if i get the HDD 500gb or 1Tb ill be throwing away the old one and just use this one as a clean install of windows and games and create some partitions for both windows and games

what should i get im really confused ?

Go with the Kingston 240gb ssd,I've got the Samsung equivalent and its great for your os plus a couple of games.meanwhile save a bit and add a 2tb seagate sshd which will give you the storage you need but faster cache times than a traditional hdd.theyre also coming down in price all the time (try newegg.com) hope this helps

Just save a little more and go for a bigger SSD. It really is worth the cost for a 500GB Samsung 850 EVO.

There is nothing wrong with hard drives. You can get new 1TB drives for $50-70 usually. They will perform significantly better than your current drive and store a lot more. That said, the SSD will blow your mind compared to the drive you are using now. Massive performance increase.

From where i live the 500gb ssd is almost 4x the price of a 1TB WD black HDD sata 6gb/s
but a kingston 240gb would go for the same price as the WD black it might be the sweet spot for me ?

you could consider a hybrid drive it has a small ssd built in that stores location of files on the hard drives disks so the drive doesn't have to find them.

it will by a pretty large amount faster but it will be cheaper then ssd and hdd and have more performance then just hdd. they go for about 60-80 usd for a 1 tb and about 40-60 for 500gb. but make sure to find one that is 7200rpm
