Hello,

I have recently just built a PC for my dad and I've ran into an unusual problem.

I have a video showing the issue here. Essentially, I can get the computer to start, the case fans start running, lights appear, etc. and the CPU fan starts spinning. However, basically as soon as the CPU fan starts spinning, the computer shuts off.

I've went through the troubleshooting list, and I've done the following:

1. Made sure the posts were aligned with the board, and that no posts in the case were touching the board if they weren't being used.
2. To make sure it wasn't the case, I bread boarded and still, as you can see in the video, I still have the same issue.
3. I ran the paperclip test with my PSU, it passed and the fans ran for as long as the PSU was on.
4. I am fairly certain I plugged everything in correctly, I've triple checked everything.
5. I have reapplied thermal paste multiple times, as I thought the CPU could be the issue. No dice.

Hardware:

Intel i3-4160
ASRock H97M Anniversary Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
Kingston HyperX Fury Blue 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory
Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
MSI Radeon R9 380 4GD5T OC 980MHZ 4GB 5.5GHZ GDDR5
EVGA 500W 80+ Certified ATX Power Supply

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't have a spare PSU or motherboard or anything, so that may complicate things. Thanks for reading.

Solution
In that case you have mobo/cpu issues. Try resetting the bios (it's in the manual), and if that doesn't work it might be time to RMA the mobo.

I forgot to mention that I've already tried removing the gpu and am trying to boot just with one stick of ram, my psu and my cpu, all bread board. No luck at all. I've also tried moving the ram around to different positions and nothing changed, and I have also tried the other stick of ram and again the same result as shown in the video occurred.
