PC Upgrade or Build new one? (Oculus Rift VR)

Hey guys,

I have recently been looking at a bunch of videos of the Oculus Rift and the Virtuix Omni and I think it's very cool. I really want to invest in getting those, but when I ran that program to see if my PC is ready for the Oculus Rift, it failed in all areas except for the RAM.
I was kinda disappointed because I feel that my PC is capable of handling the rift. (of course I wouldn’t actually know without having it and being able to test it out).

Do you guys think my PC would be capable of handling the Rift? (and the Virtuix Omni? even though that doesn’t really depend on the PC). I came up with a possible upgrade - I understand that the recommended GPU would be the R9 290 (or higher), however would my R9 280 (non-X) be sufficient? For the CPU I know if I upgraded that I would most likely have to upgrade the Motherboard as well. As for the RAM, I thought maybe if I were to upgrade that 16 GB would be nice to have not just for VR but also having more applications and such open in the background.

I guess my final question is: should I upgrade my current build or just build a whole new one?

Any help is greatly appreciated!! Thank you in Advance!!

Hmmm...Ok.

What do you think about this build instead? Would it be kinda overkill for VR?

I did make a couple of tweaks: I changed the SSD back for a 2TB HDD again, mainly because I don't necessarily need an SSD right now and atleast for now a regular HDD and double the amount of space is good enough for me.

I also ended up changing my mind about the Bluray player, I really don't need it. I hardly watch bluray dvd's so it makes so much more sense to just get a regular DVD player/burner (same one I have in my current build actually).

I added my DVI-I Dual Link to VGA adapter to the list from my current build so that I can use the GPU with the monitor.
I decided to keep the USB 3.0 PCI-Express adapter only to be safe about the USB requirements for Oculus and anything else I may need to connect. Other than that I didn't change anything else that you picked out (I really like what you picked btw, it looks nice) - Thank You so much for helping me!! If there's anything else I should change from this list down below please let me know :)
