Any point in upgrading from my 2600k to Skylake?

Hey there,

2500k @ 4.5ghz (H60 liquid)... R9 280 @ stock... I can game on near max settings @ 1080p very comfortable. 16gb ram @ CL11 2133mhz. 2x SSDs

The cpu was released back in 2011 Q1 – one would think it's time to upgrade, but, perhaps not.

My gf is quite keen on the oculus....and I'm keen on on 1440p 144mhz gaming (I'd prefer 4k , but it's less realistic).

Thinking of upgrading in 3-6 months.

Do you think it's necessary?

2 more Qs if you can help:

1) My CPU runs well @ 4.5ghz – 30c idle, 58c load) but I think that is it's limit - I can't hit 4.6ghz. Heating certainly isn't an issue – So, I'm wondering if there is much value in buying an expensive CPU cooler if it's just going to bring the same results?

2) Any point in spending extra on ram and then overclocking DDR4 Will there be much of a performance boost ?

Cheers !

Solution
Let's just day overclocked i5-2500K = i5-6500 just for generalization. Upgrade will not be THAT worth it so Idk.
1) No point.
2) Not necessarily. There is performance boost for Skylake when using higher speed RAM but only minimal and if you are getting an i5 you shouldn't worry about that.
