what happens if i reseat CMOS battery?

Hello Guys.. Recently I'm having some issues with my graphics card as the second fan isn't spinning, and also i can hear a rattling noise every time i play a game (i don't hear any rattling when i set my gpu fan at any speed while not gaming) so its not a fan issue.

i've tried almost every thing and there is nothing else left to try except re-seating CMOS battery.. so i just wanted to know is it okay if i re-seat CMOS? will i lose any data? or shall i restore anything?.

Replacing the battery wont make a diffrence, the problem is the drivers of your gpu, try to find the latest ones! If you are on amd than it is a normal problem that is caused by the new software.

i suspect a inadequate psu or a faulty gpu. what is your psu?

as i mentioned i've tried almost every thing possible, i tried a different versions of AMD drivers from 14.4 till the latest one, cleaned my case and gpu from dust, and re-seated my GPU, but nothing changed.. my gpu is sapphire 7870 XT dual-X, PSU: Thermaltake 450w Peaks at 500w, CPU: i5-3470, no overclocking.

i've read that someone had a similar problem and after re-seating the CMOS battery problem solved. so that's why I'm asking.

Resetting cmos wont do any harm,wont lose any data. What specific thermaltake do yo have, as most are mediocre at best .! i would try another one if possible!

thank you for your help.. unfortunately I'm not sure what is the exact model of my Thermaltake PSU, but i think its the one starts with TR-500. also it have only one 6pin PCIE and my gpu requires two, so I'm using one molex as a second power cable. but i've been using it since 3 years without problems.

i've read a different kind of causes.. like it might be a gpu fan motor problem, or fan needs oiling( although when i spin the fans with my hand they both spun freely and smoothly). others say its a PSU problem or BIOS. until I'm Really confused and frustrated.

Frankly I'm not even sure if the fan was spinning right after i bought the card since 3 years, I'm not sure when the exact time my second fan stopped spinning as my Temps didn't increase much, at the beginning it was 68c at full load, and now its in mid 70'c.. and i just discovered my fan problems few days ago when i started to notice temp increase by few degrees.

regardless of the quality your psu(which is bad being TR or TR2) is insufficient with only one 6pin . a molex adapter isnt recommended and as it appears fails to give the power needed , leadind to such weird and inconsistant fan activity.! if you value your pc get a quality psu with the needed pcie cables. check here. psu from tier 1,2 are highly recommended!

thank you.. so you do think its a PSU issue?. i wasn't sure about that as the gpu fan won't need much power from the PSU.. i was thinking that if my PSU is the problem i will be facing crashes/blue screen, etc.. instead of just a non spinning fan.
