I recently(before DDR4 was available) upgraded my motherboard to a new ASrock 970M Pro3. I'm buying RAM this week and I'm considering DDR4. I've heard that DDR4 is for x99 chipsets but my motherboard only gives my this information:
- Northbridge: AMD 970
- Southbridge: AMD SB950

Being that I don't know what that means I was hoping someone could tell me whether or not I should try DDR4 or just buy 2500 MHz DDR3.

Solution
No, DDR3 only.
Go to a ram vendor web site and access their ram configurator.
Enter your motherboard, and you will get a list of supported ram kits.

And... buy only a kit.
disparate sticks may not work, and no ram vendor will support you if you buy mixed sticks, even the same part number.
