I have a Western Digital 500GB mechanical and a 256GB SDD.



 
Solution
I would just keep the motherboard you have. I would never consider buying a new motherboard to use M.2
For the price of the M.2 drive you can buy a 1TB SSD or even 2X 500GB SSD's and run them in raid.
