i have a laptop battery that i need to discharge but i need to do it in a fast way and the laptop it is used in wont run on the battery so i want to discharge it to see if i can make it work of the battery has no charge

Solution
Lithium batteries have protection(either in the battery or the notebook) against deep discharge(as this is bad for the batter). They also have protection against over charge(something ni-cad and nhm did not have because they did not rupture when overcharged[it could still damage them]).

You do NOT want to deep discharge it.

You may have to set your laptop to allow the battery to drain to a low number like 5% or something, but for lithium-ion that IS dead.

It's defective. Needs replacement. I know of no safe way to discharge a battery that won't allow itself to be used. You could try wiring a 120V incandescence bulb across the battery terminals, but I doubt the trigger circuit in the battery will allow it to discharge. It isn't quite like a flashlight battery.

Good idea but the laptop wont run on the batteries, it wont charge the batteries either, so i want a way to et it almost dead but not completely or to completely charge it but the laptop wont charge them at all so i need a way to do either of those without a laptop
