Hey guys,

I have an old office PC I want to upgrade. I am getting back into gaming. Nothing hardcore, I just want to run things like BF4, Arma III and Total War series on high enough settings that I can't actually count the pixels on each unit model any more.

Here's my current rig:
PSU: Antec 380W (Constant Power) http://store.antec.com/earthwatts-green/ea-380d-green.html#
Motherboard: Asus P8H67-M
CPU: Intel i5 2500k @ 3.3Ghz
RAM: Corsair XMS 3 2x2GB 1600MHz
Current Graphics Card: (Onboard) Intel HD Graphics 3000
New Graphics Card: Gigabyte Windforce GTX 960 4GB
HD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200rpm
Case: Antec Design - Don't know which model it is, but it's from 2009 or earlier. The PSU is mounted at the top of the system. Something similar to this http://traficantesdehardware.com/review/Antec-NSK_3100/0021.jpg

As I mentioned I am looking to make some headshots and influence the odd ragequit. But I am not looking to nerd out on FPS. All I want is for it to run smoothly. The main issue I have is that my PSU is underpowered for the GPU that I bought yesterday. Despite the card stating a 400W minimum system required, I have ran tests on several power calculator sites and I'm averaging around the 320-350W mark. But as good as the little Antec is, it's too close for comfort. I want something with a little more 'umph'. So I am mainly looking for advice on which would be a good value for money PSU to upgrade to. The only other thing I might implement in the near future would be adding some additional RAM. Maybe taking my 4GB total up to 8GB or thereabouts. Nothing crazy. I've just been a little unsure as to which PSU to buy as there are so many. I've been looking around the 500-600W with 80+ rating ballpark which I think would be more than sufficient to run my rig, card and all. I'm not looking to spend a great deal, but quality is the main factor. As I say, I'm not looking to edit videos or anything crazy, just enough to run comfortably without having to worry.

So yeah, any advice would be much appreciated.

Oh, one last thing. I have a Samsung TFT monitor with a VGA cable that does not fit the GPU. There's a slot on my monitor for DVI (which the GPU has). My other question is, do I use the VGA cable I already have and buy a VGA-to-DVI adaptor/converter? Or buy a new DVI cable? My monitor only has these to slots and the GPU has HDMI and DP. As before, any advice is much appreciated.

Thanks fellas/ladies/undecided.

Gaming wise you won't notice a difference, but if you have multiple heavy applications open, so multitasking, then yes it is the better option and worth the money. On every socket except for X79 and X99 you don't benefit from more than dual-channel memory. So 2 sticks are always ideal, 4 sticks of the same will run exactly as fast as two sticks.
[strike]I'm afraid you might actually have one of Antec's custom-form-factor cases and power supplies which are only compatible with Antec's home-made form factor, the CPX form factor. Antec CP power supplies are compatible with this form factor. What is the exact type of case you have so I can verify for sure if this is the case?[/strike]

I don't suppose you have a link to this card? I can't find it in stock on Amazon... or anywhere else for that matter.
Is this the Gold rated PSU?

Thanks

You think? If I put everything on high or ultra settings, don't you think it would put too high a demand on the PSU? I don't want anything frying or anything like that.

Thanks

Redeem yourself by recommending a good PSU! Ha!

I honestly have no idea what model the case is. I have opened it up, had it upside down... I can't see anything other than Antec Design.

Thanks

Also guys, sorry, I forgot to ADD... I'm in the UK. I know you have the best kit over there at the best prices... but the shipping costs are usually more than what I'm buying.

My bad.

Thanks

Personally I would say It's on the lower side but it delivers more than enough amps to run a GTX 960, I could be wrong but just to be on the safe side you could upgrade. To avoid stutters do upgrade to 8GB RAM, if anything is stuttering at all It's most likely because you're short on memory.

Currently out of stock at Newegg, and Tiger Direct.

You can go higher to 750 watts if the price is attractive - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817207015&cm_re=xfx_550_watts_psu-_-17-207-013-_-Product (very good pricing on this one).

Thanks for the recommendation on the RAM. Those are some pretty slick sticks.
Just out of interest, would it be better to buy 2x4GB than say 4x2GB?

Just if I am going to upgrade to the 8... would I be better off adding the extra 30.00 and buying the 16GB - 2x8GB instead of the 2x4GB?

Thanks

Discontinued and out of stock. Damn my life.

XFX is your number 1 pick - is there any other you would recommend?

As I've never had any issues with my old Antec, I was looking at http://www.amazon.co.uk/Antec-VP600P-Efficiency-Thermal-Control/dp/B00K64HZI0 what are your thoughts on this PSU?

Thanks

Thanks for the info. Those sticks should hit the spot then. Great price too.

The VP600P is not that good. The VPF series are ok though.

This one is good (Overclockers In Stock):

Power Supply: Antec TruePower Classic 550W 80+ Gold Certified ATX Power Supply (£59.59 @ Overclockers.co.uk)
Total: £59.59
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Alternative, if somehow not possible (not as good, but also ok):

Power Supply: Antec 550W 80+ Certified ATX Power Supply (£49.99 @ Amazon UK)
Total: £49.99
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

I'll go with the Truepower Classic. That one looks like it ticks all the boxes.

Thank you man. I really appreciate the help.

With regards to my case having the PSU at the top of the tower. Do you think this will be OK? I'll just turn the PSU around, right?

Also, with regards to my TFT issue, am I ok to get the converter or should I buy another cable?

Thanks

If the case has holes on top for air to go through then you can place it with the facing upwards, however if there isn't then you simply do the opposite with the fan faced towards the inside of the case. As for the TFT monitor, I would buy a DVI cable and be done with it.
