Hi I'm new to PC building, this will be my first build. It's a build intended for 3d animation in programs like Maya, and for gaming.

I've gotten a lot of advice on these forums and I'm ready to buy these components today or tomorrow. Just want a final look over to make sure there are no mistakes.

The memory has fairly good specks for the money 13 cas changing to more expensive memory would be borderline depending on the cas time.
One thing I would for sure change if this is for in your house, using your modem would be the WIFI these will give you a lot better performance than a card. These get plugged into the wall outlet not a surge protector, one near the modem and the other near the PC, just simple plug and play everything you need is included and no software or downloads needed.

PS your going to need a lot more storage.......

True, but wouldn't frequency have benefit in the 3D animation he does? And he could still get that same ratio, or even better, with 3000Mhz memory.

For Maya I would be looking more at the amount and go to 32GB, depending on how serious the work load is.
But yes the faster would work as long as their not to much of a cas hit. Without looking I think that memory goes from like 14 to 16 cas depending on the model. And you must get working nice with the board and processor.
