I have an Asus Maximum VII Impact.

I've installed 2x8gb of Crucial Ballistix SportBLS8G3D1609DS1S00.M16FED 9/9/9/24 1600mhz

System will post with EITHER of the sticks in second slot (Furthest from CPU) but not both and not with either in first slot.

Fried mobo? Help please before this goes out the window! :)

Solution
Do you have latest BIOS and mobo drivers? Could be a couple or more things - these are so as individual sticks (according to the model number) so there are no guarantees they will play together (could try with one, raise DRAM voltage to 1.55, then try adding the second stick, the additional voltage may help. If you have a third party cooler, try loosening then snug down screw tight, if it's overly tight in a corner or side it can throw off the MC (memory controller) and you may be 'losing' that first channel

Updated bios to no avail. Great advice here thanks. Will try these.
I did buy the memory as a 'kit' but could well be vendor misspelling.
I'll report back thanks.
