Hey guys.

So I have the cable mod pack.
https://cablemod.com/product/cablemod-b-series-dpp-cable-kit-black/

I was wondering if I could use 2 x 6+2pin PCI-e cable to power my 980Ti GPU.

The reason for this is I hate the look of having the daisy chain linking around and would rather just run 2 sets of leads which I think look nicer. (I might be weird).

As you can see from the pictures, you don't have to have the +2pins coming from the PSU, they can just be hidden away unlike the daisy chain. (Sorry if my terms aren't right but I hope you understand.)

Only reason I ask is because I don't want to over supply power to my GPU (once again poor terms) if that's a thing...

Thanks for your help once again guys.

Also one of the leads would be a CPU lead 8pin to 4+4pin which is fine to plug into the 8 pin slot on the GPU right?

Solution

That is a question you need to ask the psu maker.
I might not think it matters, but the 4 + 4 leads are intended for the motherboard aux cpu sockets.
Not a problem.
Run your two leads if you wish.

The graphics card draws only the power that it needs.
In fact, the separation of leads from the psu is a supposed safety spec, In actuality, there is only one power generating circuit on a modern psu.

It comes with 2 of these leads. The other one will be running to the mobo.

No need to be like that maxalge..

Just wondering why they would supply 2 of these cables in the pack and it's for the perfect reason. (Which would make it intended).

Thanks for the input guys. Will stick to using 2 x 6+2p cables just because no one has tried and warranty reasons I guess.

Some motherboards intended for extreme overclocking or multiple graphics cards have two 8 pin cpu power ports.
