Hello people,

So I need a better graphics card, and now that I have the money, I want to buy some of the best, where I was thinking of the GTX 980 or the GTX 980 Ti. I currently run on an i5-4670k, GTX 770, 16 GB ram, SSD 200gb, and a 144Hz monitor. My CPU is overclocked to 4.3GHz

So what my question is.
Can my i5-4670k and my 144Hz monitor, run with a GTX 980?

Thanks in advanced.

The 980ti is the much better choice, as it offers a huge increase in performance per dollar.

For example, if:

- GTX 970 = 100% performance for 100% price

Then;

- GTX 980 = 130% performance for 160% price

- GTX 980ti = 200% performance for 190% price

The 980ti is currently one of the best price-performance GPUs on the market along with the 970. However, the 980 is one of the WORST.

Yes its powerful, but no where near the 980ti and is overpriced for what you get.

If you're gaming at 1080p, it wouldnt be necessary to get a 980 or a 980ti, as a 970 would do, but if you want those high frames, a 980ti is the more sensible option in the long run.

I'm just scared because I looked up another thread with this. And of the reply's was:
"Unless you have a 120 or 144Hz monitor THAT is going to be the restriction!"

I don't have money for SLI with two 980's, I don't wanna spend that much money on my gaming.
Is it necessary to get the 980 Ti?

I didn't say it wasnt powerful, I said its overpriced when it comes to performance per dollar.

For example, here are some FPS values for different games [source: techpowerup.com]:

- Witcher 3 @1440p -

970: 29.9
980: 33.7
980ti: 41.3

- GTA:V @ 1440p -

970: 43.7
980: 49.4
980ti: 59.8

- Battlefield 4 @ 1440p -

970: 50.3
980: 58.5
980ti: 74.1

So as you can see, the 980 despite being half way between the 970 and 980ti in PRICE , is no where near half way between the two in performance.
