ASUS laptops - generic power supply?

Hopefully any easy question for someone, I can't seem to find confirmation anyway...

So, I've acquired a bunch of older computer components, older laptops etc. My plan is to build a couple of 'frankenstein' rigs and refurbish the laptops - as simply as possible (clean, increase RAM & HDD, format & clean install), and donate them somewhere.

One of the more viable options is an ASUS S56C from ~2012.
i5-3317U, 6GB DDR3 & GT 635M (HM76 chipset)

The problem is, in the pile of adapters/cables that I've also received, I don't appear to have the charger for this specific laptop.

Now, I've no way of knowing if this laptop is even functional without the battery being charged.
I would buy an appropriate charger once I refurbed this, but I'm curious as to whether all ASUS laptops have a generic charger? If I could get ahold of any old ASUS charger for the short term, is this likely to fit/work or cause problems?

It uses a 19v charger. If you can find one that fits, even if its generic, you should at least be able to put a charge on it to see if it boots. If it requires a charger with a logic pin, it may not display the correct battery information or cause the processor to run at a reduced state, but at least you will know whether its worth getting the correct charger or a battery.

Thanks for the responses!

Ok, I checked through the piles of cables and assorted peripherals I received over the weekend, and I found a couple of contenders - laptop chargers where the pins fit at least.

Tried the two out, and a Toshiba charger allows it to be powered on. Didn't note the specs of the charger, other than it was a max 65W, which appears to match the ASUS requirements but didn't note the voltage.

Anyway, there were further developments with blue screens on boot with potential HDD issues - managed to repair it, only to find that, although it came preloaded with Windows 8, somebody at some point or another has installed Windows 7 (from an Acer Disk nonetheless!) and it's now full of Acer branding and won't activate.

I now have a Windows 8 question.....which I guess goes off topic for this thread. So I've posted here:
