Can I fix my faulty RAM?

Hello,

This Friday I had a BSoD crash while playing a game (from what I know the new update to that game caused the crash). After that crash all startup programs got corrupted and stopped working, even programs I tried to run, to the point in which I couldn't even boot in safe mode. I then formatted my C partition and tried to reinstall windows, at first I couldn't even reinstall windows as the installation kept failing at 17%. I managed to reinstall windows in the end by removing the first RAM stick (the closest to the CPU), I then proceeded to test all the other hardware components and everything seems to be working fine.

Is it safe for me to put back in the first RAM stick and test it with MemTest86? or will it corrupt my system again?

My system config is:
Motherboard - ASUS M5A87
CPU - AMD Athlon II x4 645 3100Mhz
RAM - Kingston HyperX Red Kit 8GB 2x4GB DDR3 1600MHz CL9 (now I only have 1)
GPU - Sapphire AMD Radeon HD 6670 2Gb
PSU - FSP500-60APN 500W
HDD - WESTERN DIGITAL WD10EZEX-22RKKA0 1TB

Solution
Memtest runs independtly of the OS, so when running Memtest, Win (and thus the hardrive aren't involved so shouldn't have any ill effects

Putting the corrupted RAM back in your system should not affect the files already on your hard drive but there could be problems if you change them or add new ones.

I would say that it is safe to put the RAM back in and run Mem Test86 but I think there is a good chance you already know what the answer will be based on what you have said here.
