I had 660 and bought the R9 one recently, thinking it would be better as the 280x has always great parametres. But now I look at the official specifications and see that the WINDFORCE edition is worse than my 660... Is that true?

The technical specifications between AMD and Nvidia can't be compared because they use completely different architectures thus they can only be compared to each other by looking at benchmarks. In this case, the R9 280X leaves the GTX 660 no chance. The R9 280X a huge gap ahead in performance, we are talking about a range of about 20-25 fps?

Yeah, it should be, but I'm afraid the benchmark could be perfrormed with the Gaming edition, or one of the others, and ALL of the others have higher stream procesors, etc. than the Windforce edition.
Also, I was playing a game with my 660 on the recommended settings, which were "High" - and now, with R9, the recommended is only "Low"...

Unfortunately I disagree completely with the way you think. Every R9 280X performs comparable to each other doesn't matter their difference in numbers, what that might be. In no universe will the GTX 660 ever even touch the R9 280x's aura. Look up benchmarks on the R9 280X Windforce.

Perhaps you are playing an Nvidia optimised game, I don't know.
