I need to know do I need to buy an OS to use a gaming mini pc after its built.

I never built a pc well obviously, and I don't know certain things yet.

But can someone tell me what components and things I need to build a mini itx pc or atx?

Solution
OS: Yes and no. If you want Windows, (which includes web browsing and office type applications) Yes. If you just want to play games, you can install SteamOS which is free.

Building a PC is basically the same method no matter the size, you just have to make sure your components fit, smaller computers require slightly more nimble maneuvering of some components, and installing things in a certain order so they don't block off other things.

How much money do you want to spend on it?

Building your own computer is easy. Building it takes 2-3 hours, and installing windows takes about 30mins to 45mins, and after that downloading and installing drivers takes another 30-45 mins. After all that, have it download windows updates at night, it may...

Protip for installing drivers safely, install them one at a time and restart the computer after each install to avoid breaking the OS, which can happen if you try to install them all at once.

ITX is if you want a small build. It's usually a bit more expensive for mobos but cases are sometimes cheaper. ATX gives you more room to work in which is what I like. You do need an OS. If you want Windows you spend $90 for a license. It you can use Linux but not too many games work on it. Or you could try a hackintosh but that's a whole different story.
