is a build with a GTX 950 (2 fan), i3 4170, 8gb DDR3 1600, better (as in more powerful) than a PS4? it also has a 1tb hard drive, and a 120gb SSD.

More powerful is a meaningless question. What do you want, more flops, more pixels/sec? Do you want it to run at a higher wattage - that's literally more power.

The question you should ask is "At comparable graphic settings, would the same title run at a higher frame rate on a PS4 or a Core i3-4170 with 8GB RAM and a GTX 950?"

And for that question I'd answer "It depends." Is the game natively written for PC or PS4? Whichever one is a port should run slower.

Besides that it's a pointless discussion, one is a console that you interact with on a TV and with a wireless gaming pad, typically from a couch. The other is a computer that you interact with, typically on a smaller monitor with a keyboard and mouse and from a desk...

Besides that it's a pointless discussion, one is a console that you interact with on a TV and with a wireless gaming pad, typically from a couch. The other is a computer that you interact with, typically on a smaller monitor with a keyboard and mouse and from a desk. Completely different experience and though the PS4 can do a lot more than just play games, a computer can do literally anything so it also depends on what other systems you have. If you don't have a desktop at all, then maybe the PC is a better choice even if it's not as powerful. Maybe you have a laptop and don't need a desktop, and so you would be better off with a PS4. The important part is that what you're asking is to essentially start a decades old war between consoles and PCs and it's always been fruitless so my advice to you is to choose whichever one fits your lifestyle better and choose whichever one offers you the games you want to play.

As a related note, a GTX 950 with a Core i3-4170 is a capable setup for many titles if you choose sane settings. You're not going to run it at 1080p with everything on ultra and get silky smooth 60 fps. But guess what, PS4s don't run like that either.

Thank you- that's a very informative answer. Yeah, I guess i did mean performance, so basically a PC game with good optimisation will probably run better while an average port of a PS4 game won't. Do you think overclocking my 950 to 1500mhz base could give it an edge?
