Hello,

My father and I purchased an HP Compaq 8000 in order to replace the system my grandmother was using. It's currently running on 2GB x2 DDR3 RAM for a total of 4GB.

I'm looking to add in a bit more RAM power to ensure that the computer will continue to be functional when upgraded to Windows 10 and for the foreseeable future.

My question is this: What do I need to look for to make sure any RAM purchased is compatible with the CPU/motherboard.

I tried to answer your question and I have some direction but I can't answer the whole question. The best thing to do here is install this little program called CPU-Z. Once installed it will tell you quite a bit about the components in your computer. Use the link to go to the download site, on the left hand side click on the button that says,

- on the "Mainboard" tab find the "Manufacturer" and "Model"
- on the "Memory" tab find the "Type", "DRAM Frequency" and "CAS# Latency (CL)"
- on the "SPD" tab determine the number of memory slots by...

Once I have this I can tell you exactly what you need
