I was watching Linus's video about how he quadrupled his internet speed using a quad port server adapter and a 16 port gigabit Ethernet switch.( I pretty much know nothing about network things, I only know stuff about pc's) And before I go and do this I was wondering if it's just as simple as buying those 2 installing those parts and plugging them into my router or modem. Any information about this would be extremely helpful.

PC specs
Motherboard- Gigabyte Z97x
CPU-Intel I5 4690k
GPU-GTX 970 g1
Ram- g.skill ripjawsX
120GB Samsung SSD
Western digital 1tb hard drive
OS- Windows 10
750W power supply

Solution
You also need a switch that can talk the same language as the quad adapter, read the adapter's manual in detail. You are looking for Link Aggregation, LACP. For a desktop PC, most likely a waste. A multi-user file server, yes.

That is NETWORK speed, not INTERNET speed.

That's what the video said. I don't know much about network stuff if you have "any useful advice" I would love to hear it.

Why would it be a waste? And thanks for posting something that is actually useful i really appreciate it most people just try to be a smart ass.

As others mentioned, this is to improve inTRAnet speed, not InTERnet speed. In another word it may help if you have a dozen people in the house and they are streaming video from a server which you have set up. It won't do anything if they are Netflix-ing.

It's currently a waste for a desktop (a single client) because 1 gigabit per user is currently more than enough, and you are suggesting up-ting this to 4 gigabits. However, if you set this up on a file server where many people maybe hitting it simultaneously, then obviously here and only here a 4 gigabit highway would be advantageous.

We've been spending some times debunking/clarifying all these stuff you see on Youtube. I want Google to pay me. :)
