2x GTX 970s SLI vs. 980 Ti

I've been looking at benchmarks on youtube and google, and have found that at 80$ less, the dual 970s are slightly outperforming the single 980 ti. What GPU should I get?

980Ti, so that you can always have the option of buying another 980ti to get more performance. SLI is to be opted for only if you cant afford two cards at the same time. If you buy 970 for SLI now , you are locked with that perfromance forever , there is no way to upgrade , except selling them both, which will be costlier in the long run.
