My laptop was idling around 43C and under load it peaked at 82C. So... I opened it up and found the thermal compound was wayyyyyy over done, there was so much of it. Then I cleaned it all up and shined it up and replaced the thermal compound with Gelid gc-extreme compound. I used the pea drop method but was a little scared since I hadn't replaced compound on a laptop before. I turned it on and it idled at 33C, but under load it got to 89C!!! What the hell did I do?? Please help me I am lost.

Solution
I would pull your CPU clean it and re paste it and re seat it. Either the CPU is not seated properly or you have a bare spot without paste. You can also use a credit card or a plastic flat blade of some kind to evenly spread it on your CPU.
