Hey, for over two years my fx 6300 has been clocked to 4 ghz without any problems, but today when I started up my pc it gave me the "Overclocking failed, please press F1 to reconfigure your system". I restarted my pc but the problem is still there, any idea why this is happening? Atm, cpu clocks fluctuate from 3475 to 3800mhz.

you could try resetting the BIOS by turning of the PSU, look for a small battery on your motherboard (round/silver) and remove it, press the power button a couple of times and then put back the battery. That will reset the BIOS settings.

How could the clock be unstable when it has been setup like this for two years and I haven't had any problems with it before this?

The max temperature I get is around 56deg on hot days so I doubt it would be that, by degrading do you mean about to break or just not be able to do what it used to?

Just not able to do what it's used to. This happens on Intel Sandy Bridge CPUs, which released ~4-5 years ago. The transistors in the processor is wearing out from having so much voltage poured in to move at a much faster speed. Maybe it's just an unlucky CPU in your case.

I'm not sure about that.

You're not really even overclocking, you're using the turbo speed (I still have an FX 6300 that I ran at 4.5 ghz 24/7).

I'm guessing that this specific CPU has only been able to give you two years of service at this speed (which is pretty good).

This could be the end of its life, and time to get a new CPU

Well, I left the settings as they were and when I booted it today it clocked itself to 4ghz like it normally does, could've just been a fluke it looks like.. Thanks for the responses guys.
